A riverside lodge where the aurora dances above the lava plains.
Hotel Rangá sits along the wild Rangá river between Hella and the foot of Hekla, placing guests at the crossroads of Iceland's most dramatic south-coast landscapes. Log-cabin warmth meets modern Icelandic design across rooms and sweeping suites with balconies overlooking garden, mountain, and river. The on-site restaurant serves modern European cuisine with vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free menus, and the aurora-lit sky above is reason enough to stay awake.

Perfect location, perfect staff
Five minutes from the main square but quiet enough to sleep. The concierge booked us a last-minute glacier walk that turned out to be the trip highlight.

Great comfort after a long drive
We came in exhausted from the Ring Road and the hot tub plus the in-house restaurant saved the evening. Bed was cloud-like.

Understated Icelandic luxury
The design is restrained and tasteful — everything has a reason to be there. Aurora wake-up call at 23:41 was magical.

Family-friendly without being kiddish
The family room easily fit the four of us. Kids loved the pool and we loved the sauna. Breakfast had options for picky eaters.
