Booking terms.
Effective 6 October 2026
These terms apply when you book a stay through Stofa (www.stofaiceland.com), the hotel booking platform operated by StofaHotels, an Icelandic company. Please read them before you book: you accept them when you confirm a booking.
1.Who you book with
Stofa is a booking platform. Your stay is provided by the hotel, and the contract for the accommodation is between you and that hotel. StofaHotels arranges the booking, takes your payment details through our payment provider and passes your reservation to the hotel.
The hotel's name, the room, the price and its cancellation terms are shown to you before you book.
2.Prices and currency
Prices come from the hotel and include the taxes stated at checkout. You are charged in the currency shown at checkout, normally Icelandic krónur (ISK). If your card is in another currency, your bank converts the amount at its own rate on the day it is charged; amounts shown in other currencies are estimates.
3.When you pay
The checkout tells you which of these applies to your booking:
- Non-refundable rates are charged in full when you book.
- Refundable rates, arriving soon: the full amount is reserved (held) on your card when you book and charged on the date shown at checkout.
- Refundable rates, arriving later: nothing is charged when you book. We check your card and store it securely, reserve the amount a few days before you arrive and charge it on the date shown at checkout.
If a reservation on your card is declined, we email you a link to add another card. If no valid payment is in place by the day before arrival, the booking may be cancelled at no cost to you.
4.Stored cards
For refundable bookings you authorise us to store your card with our payment provider, Paystrax, and to charge it for that booking under these terms: the price of the stay, and any cancellation or no-show fee that applies under the hotel's terms. Your card number is held by Paystrax; Stofa never sees or stores it, only a reference to it.
The authorisation covers that booking only and ends when the booking is settled or cancelled. To withdraw it, cancel the booking or contact us; a cancellation fee may still apply under the hotel's terms.
5.Changes and cancellation
Each hotel sets its own cancellation terms, shown before you book and in your confirmation email. Free cancellation runs until the date shown; after it, the hotel's fee applies. Non-refundable rates cannot be refunded.
If you do not arrive and have not cancelled, the hotel may charge a no-show fee as stated in its terms. Refunds go back to the card you paid with; your bank may take a few days to show them.
If the hotel cannot honour your booking, we refund what you paid in full and try to help you find another stay.
6.Signature Trips
A Signature Trip is a route we have planned, with a hotel for each stop. Each stay is a separate reservation with its hotel, under that hotel's price and cancellation terms. Transport, car rental and activities are not included; you arrange your own car. When you ask us to lock a route, a person at Stofa confirms each stay with you before anything is booked.
7.Your stay
The hotel is responsible for your stay and its facilities, and its house rules apply. Check-in and check-out times, and any charges paid at the hotel (for example extras or local taxes not included at checkout), are set by the hotel.
8.Our responsibility
We take care that the information on Stofa is accurate and comes from the hotel. We are responsible for arranging your booking correctly. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under Icelandic or EEA consumer law, or our liability where the law does not allow it to be limited.
9.Complaints
Tell us at hello@stofaiceland.com and we will reply within five working days. Problems during your stay are best raised with the hotel straight away, so it can put them right. If we cannot resolve a complaint, you may refer it to the Icelandic consumer complaints board (Kærunefnd vöru- og þjónustukaupa).
10.Law and changes to these terms
These terms are governed by Icelandic law. If you live elsewhere in the EEA you keep the protection of your own country's consumer law. We may update these terms; the version you accepted applies to your booking. How we handle your data is in our privacy policy.
